Are you feeling spontaneous and thinking of a weekend or even a mid-week escape? They say spontaneity is the spice of life! You can achieve a lot in 48 hours in Brisbane, from delectable dining experiences, shows or concerts, taking in a sporting event, fantastic shopping and tourist attractions.
Here's a suggested itinerary for 48 hours in Brisbane:
Spend the morning at Westfield Garden City for some retail therapy. At Westfield Garden City you will find your favourite stores and the newest shops for fashion, beauty, lifestyle and fresh food. The centre is open until 5pm every day except Thursday when it is open until 9pm. It has all the major department stores like David Jones, Myer, K Mart, Big W and Target and has over 440 specialty stores. You can literally shop until you drop! When you are tired from shopping rest your weary feet at one of Garden City's restaurants or cafes or maybe take in a movie at Events Cinema Complex located within the centre.
Afterwards check into your stylish comfortable suite at The Glen Hotel and Suite at 2pm, quickly unpack and head straight to AMF Bowling at Mt Gravatt for some ten pin bowling action or if bowling is not your thing swim a few laps or work out in the gym at Sleemans Sports Complex at Chandler.
After all of this activity you are going to be exhausted so have a long luxurious bath in your suite and then stroll over to The Glen Hotel for some pre-dinner drinks and a hearty meal at either The Garden Grille or The Deck Bar & Bistro. Check out The Glen Hotel's weekly specials on the menu as well as their weekly events such as Tuesday Trivia, Live Music Wednesdays, Friday Knock Offs, Ladies Night Saturdays and Sounds on Sunday.
Start the day with a big breakfast at The Glen Hotel because you are going to need it! Today you're going into Brisbane CBD, only 15 kms away, for a day of sightseeing in the River City. Start the day at South Bank with a visit to Queensland Museum and Gallery of Modern Art and a walk under the bougainvillea clad arbour to Streets Beach, a manmade sandy lagoon in the heart of South Bank. Afterwards jump aboard a Brisbane River Cruise and enjoy the city sights and the commentary of Brisbane's intriguing history and present day landmarks of interest as you cruise down the river.
Catch a Brisbane River Ferry across to Brisbane CBD and stroll along the riverside walkway to the City Botanic Gardens. Enjoy lunch at one of the riverside restaurants at Eagle Pier and then spend the afternoon in Queen Street Mall, checking out Treasury Casino and Brisbane City Hall in King George Square. There are plenty of historical buildings of note in the CBD. You can grab a walking map from Brisbane Visitor Information Centre in Queen Street or take a free guided walking tour.
This evening take in a show at QPAC (Queensland Performing Art Centre), attend a sporting event at Suncorp Stadium at Milton or The Gabba Cricket Ground at Woolloongabba, see live musical entertainment at one of the great clubs or bars in Fortitude Valley or dance the night away at one the nightclubs. There is a vibrant and exciting nightlife scene in Brisbane CBD. Afterwards make your way back to The Glen Hotel and Suites and enjoy a good nights sleep in your comfortable suite. You don't need to check out until 11am the following morning so sleep in and take it easy - you deserve it!
