There is lots of choice for bush and natures walks and hiking trails around Brisbane with tracks to suit all levels of fitness and ability.

When you’re looking for something fun to do, you don’t have to go far for a great adventure. Put on your walking shoes and get out and about and get some of these rewarding hikes under your belt, all within a short drive of your South Brisbane Accommodation.

NORTH

Summit Track, Mt Coot-tha – easy 1.9kms one way

The 1500ha of natural parklands and open eucalypt forest at Mt Coot-tha is a 45minutes drive from South Brisbane. The Summit Track from JC Slaughter Falls picnic area to Mt Coot-tha lookout is 1.9kms (1-hour return). Other options include the 2.1km Honeyeater Track or join the short Simpsons Falls and Eugenia Circuit making a 4km trek (1.5-hour circuit). Mt Coot-tha has lots more on offer too in the way of short trails and pathways, and there is the beautiful Brisbane Botanic Garden near the bottom that makes for a wonderful place for a leisurely stroll, as well as the magnificent views to take in from Mt Coot-tha Lookout.

Araucaria Track, D’Aguilar National Park – easy 5km

This is a wonderful family friendly trail winding through the D’Aguilar National Park starting from the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre through the picturesque Enoggera Reservoir, make sure you take your binoculars for bird watching through the eucalypt forest.

Mermaid Mountain Walk, Feathertail Nature Refuge – hard 11.4km loop

After a challenge? Mermaid Mountain is a moderately trafficked loop trail with stunning views from the top, there is no signage so you will need a compass or google maps for navigation. Although the tracks are wide and clear, there are some steep and slippery sections, you will need plenty of water for this challenging bush trek with scenic views and bird watching.

SOUTH

Buhut Creek Circuit, Daisy Hill Conservation Park – easy 9km circuit

This rewarding bushland walk is a great way to take in views of native flora and fauna, there are a number of walking trails so it’s advised to take a map as some tracks are not clearly sign posted further in.

Summit & Federation Track, Mt Gravatt – easy 3km return or extend on Toohey Forest Park trails

Be rewarded with stunning views from the Mt Gravatt Lookout at the summit on this 3kms round walking trail. There are quite a few trails up and back with the Summit Track and the Federation Track being well traversed. Both these trails start at the Gertrude Petty Place Picnic Area with parking. From this spot you can also join the Toohey Forest Park Trails to extend your hike.
